Once upon a time there lived a brave king called Veera. One day, King Veera was leading his army to battle.
On the battlefield, he suddenly noticed an old woman on the ground. She was ill and had fallen down.
There was no one to help her when the battle started. She tried to crawl away to safety.
Seeing this, the King called his generals. He told them to lead the army instead of him. He wanted to help the old woman. He generals begged him not to go, but he rushed away. He lifted the woman on to his horse and carried her to the village. He told the headman to take care of her and rushed back. His army had almost lost the battle because of this delay. Only after a great struggle did they defeat the enemy.
While the King was away, his mother fell very ill. News was sent to every corner of the land for help to save her. This news reached the village where the old woman was. She knew a great deal about herbal medicine and was sure she could help.
On reaching the palace, she made a juice out of herbs and flowers. It saved the Queen Mother. The Queen Mother wept and thanked the old woman, You are so old and weak, and live so far away. Why did you come to help me?
The old woman replied gently, “I will gladly die for you. The King, your son, almost lost the battle to save me, a poor, old woman. He has a lot of love for the old and helpless!” She told the Queen Mother the whole story.
Thus the King’s glory spread, not only as a great warrior but also as a noble and kind person.
Respect and love for elders plays a big part in our lives. We believe that the blessings of elders is a must for a happy life.
