THE STORY OF FLYING
Hundreds of years ago, when people used to watch birds soaring in the sky, they would wonder if they too could fly across the sky. This made many people experiment with all kinds of flying machines like hot-air balloons.
Huge balloons were filled with light gases like helium that made them rise into the sky. People would sit in little baskets tied below the balloons and sail among the clouds, but the balloons would travel only in the direction of the wind.
People began to wonder whether a flying machine could be made that would zoom through the sky in the direction the traveler wanted.
People began experimenting with and inventing machines. The first aeroplane which actually flew was built by the Wright Brothers. Today, we can fly through the sky at high speeds in modern planes.
Wondering about the flight of a bird led to the modern aircraft of today. Many more such inventions and discoveries were made because of people's ability to wonder.
