NAUGHTY TO 'ARTY'

Nikita and Natasha were naughty twins. They were always playing pranks or teasing someone. Everyone in the colony where they lived was tired of them. One day, Kala, an arts teacher came to live in the colony. She would sit in her balcony after school hours and paint, draw, make stuffed toys and do colorful craft work. She would often hear complaints about the twins.

One day in a colony meeting of the older people, she told them, “Nothing is wrong with Nikita and Natasha. They are just so full of energy! Bring them to me. I am sure I can help.

The next day, their mother brought the twins to Kala. Nikita said, “Your name is Kala. “Kala means art. And you are an art teacher! How did your mother know that when she named you?

Kala was delighted. She told their mother, “See! How bright they are! I am going to love my time with them.” Their mother left them there and went home.

The girls loved the toys and fun-things that Kala had made. She asked, “Would you like to learn a few things like these?” Natasha replied, “It might be boring.” Nikita said, “We may not be able to do it well”.

Kala said, “Let’s try!” She gave them a paint brush each, some paint and two small flower pots. She asked them to paint these.” The girls wanted something to copy from. Kala said, “No. Think up something of your own. Don’t ever look at each other till you finish”. When she came back later, she saw two beautiful painted pots.
She clapped and said, “Girls! You have real talent! Let’s try something else!” Soon Nikita and Natasha were coming to Kala often and in the weekends.

One day, Kala said, “You can come here only after you finish your homework”. So the girls would finish their snack and studies quickly and come to Kala. Then Kala said, “I will continue teaching you only if you do well in your tests and exams. Otherwise, your parents will not be happy to send you to me.” So the girls worked extra hard, and began to do better in their school too. In a few months, the twins had painted pots and vases, and also made toys, masks and greeting cards and many more fun things.

Soon Nikita and Natasha forget all the naughty things they used to do – they had no time. They loved their hobby and their teacher. Everyone in the colony also began to love them. From calling them the “Naughty Twins”, they now called them the “Arty Twins”!

If you learn to spend your time usefully from now, it will help you later in life also. With practice, you get better at your hobby, and enjoy it more too.
