Satisfy your Need, not Greed

There was a pasture near the edge of a forest. There was a old tree in the forest next to the pasture that had a big hollow with a narrow opening.

Shepherds of the nearby villages came to the pasture with their flocks. While the flocks grazed, the shepherds spent their time under the trees chatting and playing games.

The shepherds put their lunch packets in the hollow of the tree. At noon, they took them out ad enjoyed their mid-day meal together.

One day a hungry fox happened to come that way. He got the smell of the lunch packets and traced it to reach the hollow. His belly was sunk inside owing to huger. Due to his empty stomach, he was able to get into the hollow without much difficulty.

There he found a number of lunch packets ad greedily ate up the contents of all of them. His belly became swollen on both sides. So, when he tried to come out of the hollow, he couldn't get out of the arrow opening. At noon the shepherds came there for their lunch packets. They found their packets had been eaten by the fox and gave him a sound beating.

If the fox had taken only enough food for his hunger, he could have escaped from the hollow. Because of his greed and overeating, he was caught by the shepherds.
