Little Raju was alone in this world. His parents had died when he was just a kid. He had no brothers or sisters. He spent time in playing with other childs. He could go into any home and get food. All people liked Raju.
One day he sat at the sea beach thinking, "There is no one in this world to call my own. Who do I live for?" Tears welled up in his eyes.
He happened to look up at the sky and forgot crying. An elephant was descending from the sky. It landed near him and asked, "Raju! Why do you weep?"
Raju replied, "I am alone in this world. No mother. How shall I survive?"
The elephant spoke, "Don't say that. Your mother is now the queen of fairies. She sent me to take you to her. Would you come?"
Raju said after a thought, "But tell me what shall I get there?"
"Anything you want..... sweets, toys!"
Raju was getting excited, "Shall I get toffees, big balloons too?"
"Anything you want," elephant informed.
Raju said, "Then, I'll come. But how?"
"No problem. When I fly you get hold of my tail. I will fly you to your mother."
"Alright," Raju said.
The elephant started rising up in the air. Raju hung by its tail. Soon, they were in the fairyland. There, Raju asked, "Where's my mother?"
The elephant revealed, "The fairy you see high up on the throne who is looking at you with extended arms."
Raju walked briskly to his mother. The fairy mother hugged him and caressed him for a long time putting him in her lap. Raju spent some time happily. Then, one day he looked sad.
His mother enquired, "Son, why do you look so sad?"
Raju explained, "I have everything here but no friends of mine. Who do I play with?"
The mother understood the problem of her son. She said to heavenly elephant, "Take Raju to the earth and bring him back along with his friends."
The elephant took Raju to the same spot. Raju sent back the elephant with request to come back there after two days.
Suddenly his friend saw him and crowded around him. They asked where he had been for the past so many days.
Raju said, "Friends! I had gone to fairyland to meet my mother. There are lots and lots of treats... toys, big balloons, toffees, sweets etc. Will you come with?"
The kids were amazed. They said in one voice, "We will."
Raju informed, "Alright. I have asked the flying elephant to be here the day after tomorrow. We will all go to the fairyland hanging by its tail. You will enjoy".
At the appointed time the elephant arrived. The kids were ready on the beach. Raju hung by the elephant's tail. Another boy grabbed his leg. The rest hung by holding one another leg. A chain of kids hung by the tail of the flying elephant.
They were talking at the same time. The lower most kid asked, "How beg balloons we shall get there?"
Raju replied, "You will see."
But the kid kept pestering Raju. Raju forgot that his hands were holding the tail. To tell how big balloons will be he let go of tail to show the size by his hands. The chain of the kids fell down on the beach. The elephant didn't come back.
