DAVID AND GOLIATH

DAVID AND GOLIATH

Long ago, there lived in Israel a young shepherd named David. He wanted to be a soldier like his three older brothers, but someone had to stay back and look after his father's sheep. David was very good with a sling and stones. It was a weapon to keep wild animals from attacking his sheep.
One day, David's father sent him to give his brothers some letters and gifts. When David reached the army camp, he found everyone trembling in fear. There was a giant in the enemy camp. He was roaring, "I am Goliath. I will kill all of you and then destroy Israel!"
David thought of God, his  best friend, and he was not afraid. He knew that God would help him. He wanted to challenge Goliath at one. His brothers thought he was mad. The king of Israel had promised wealth and his daughter to anyone who killed Goliath. David asked the King if he could fight Goliath.
The King saw a brave but very young boy. At first he refused, but david was sure he could fight. The rest of the army was sure he could not. "All right David, you may fight for Israel!, said the King.
The King offered David a very huge sword. David could not even lift it, so he refused it.
David stood before the mountain like Goliath. Goliath was both furious and amused that a young boy had been sent to challenge him. He screamed in anger. Brave David prayed to the Lord. Then he calmly said to Goliath, "Let us see who is victorious!"
Then, David took out his sling. he placed a large smooth stone in it. He whirled the sling over his head. With perfect aim he let the stone fly through the air. It hit the giant between the eyes with great force. Like a huge tree falling, Goliath crashed to the ground, dead. Seeing Goliath dead, his army fled. David won the princess and much wealth. He later became King.
David was tiny before Goliath, but he was intelligent and calm. He was good with the sling and devoted to God. All this put together made him so brave that he could save his country. Even in little day-to-day things, these qualities can make you confident and powerful.
